Not For Everyone!

Inspired by the short novel “The Cloven Viscount” by Italo Calvino and the well known novel “SteppenWolf” by Hermann Hesse, the selection of the texts follows Paco’s three “P”s: Personal/Passionate/Political.

In the political an extract of HamletMachine (H. Muller) expresses the cry of this divided world of ours… “…Behind me the ruins of Europe. BlaBlaBla!… ” . Passionately, Paco take the word of Walt Whitman (“Song to the Open Road”) as his own “Yes” to Life. & His P ersonal being, part of the Modern Level of Consciousness as a man, like the characters of Calvino y Hesse, closes the narrative line of this … not for everyone journey … an immersive theatrical experience that explores the duplicity or multiplicity of the essence of human beings.

Calvino’s hero divided by a cannon bullet into two parts, the bad and the good sides of a noble; Hesse’s hero also showing us the duality between the wolf and the human, the human and the beast living together in us. Our hero in turn journeys through the 7 chapters articulating the continuous internal conflicts and contradictions, a journey towards making peace with our contradictory, “glitchy” nature. Nature and Reason, Spirituality and Science.

Theater, as Paco understands it, and lives it, is an act of sharing that aims to create a common experience with the audience, through the senses, and not through an explicative discourse. Theatre does not explain, but in plain.

The text will be delivered, off and alive, in 5 different languages, Spanish, Paco’s mother tongue, French, Hungarian, English and Romanian. Aiming to value the expressive musicality of the different languages, but also the fluid communication with the audience, the necessary adaptations will be made attending to the language of the hosting venue.

For Paco Alfonsín, even though, the main mean of communication is the movement, in its theatricality and musicality. Movement, organically connected with the voice, sang and spoken, in a continuous interactive dialogue.

The movement writing of this staged – poem obeys mainly to an honest body, with more than 30 years of experience sur les planches , having gone through a vast diversity of styles, techniques and understandings of Theatre and Dance. The complicity with Yves Marc has been essential to develop a precise and generous physical score at the service of the complexity of the piece.

Video projections together with an eclectic sound universe frame an almost empty space. The music played in the creative process as meeting point for East and West, North and South. Flamenco, traditional Hungarian songs, electric guitars and piano, with contemporary soundscapes give the poetic space for the movement and vocal scores.

Filmed images and music creation were the result of an intensive residence in Jerez de la Frontera and Caños de Meca en Cádiz, South of Spain, at Estudio La Bodega, masterly directed by Josema Pelayo. An artistic encounter between Transylvania and Andalucía, Paco’s homelands, with an inevitable salty Atlantic accent.

A Persian rug and costume concept complete the ritualistic environment for the journey.

Not For EveryOne! is open to be presented in any space, indoor and outdoor, non-theatre venues, churches, barns… Every place is the present place!
